Established. 1915
Seth E. Thomas, Jr., grandson of Seth Thomas the renowned clockmaker, established Spring Valley Hounds in New Jersey in 1915. Originally a harrier hunt, later a fox hunt, it is now a ‘drag’ hunt. Live quarry is never hunted; contrived scent is used, with the drag laid by dripping the scent the morning of the hunt. The hounds open when they encounter the scent and follow the scent line.
Hunt Territory
Located in Sussex and Warren counties in northwestern New Jersey. Hunts can sometimes extend over a fifteen mile radius. Many landowners graciously allow SVH the great privilege of hunting on their land. The area boasts some of the most scenic and rural landscapes that northwestern New Jersey has to offer. |
